A mitral valve prolapse would be monitored throughout your pregnancy, but in fact it would be unlikely to cause you any major problems.

The 20-week ultrasound scan is able to pick up the majority of heart abnormalities. However, if the problem is felt to be hereditary, a detailed cardiac scan would probably arranged for 24 weeks as this is the time when the heart can be seen most clearly.
