The medical term for undue hairiness is hirsutism. It can occur for many different reasons and is usually not a sign of disease, although it can be. In northern Europe it is socially unacceptable for women to be hairy and hence it is particularly distressing.
The most common condition giving rise to hirsutism in a young woman is polycystic ovaries (PCO), which can, of course, reduce fertility. However, not every woman with PCO has difficulty in getting pregnant – the regularity of your periods is much more important. If you have a regular monthly bleed, your hairiness is very probably irrelevant.
Nevertheless, I’m sure your GP would be happy to organise a blood test for androgen levels – these are the male hormones which can be raised in PCO and hirsutism.
