I know how distressing this can be. However, everything I have read on the subject suggests that if an early scan shows that the baby is growing at the normal rate, and the embryonic heart is beating, then the pregnancy is likely to continue – in spite of any bleeding. Indeed, experts reckon that maybe 50 per cent of pregnant women have some bleeding in pregnancy – but relatively few actually miscarry. We often do not know for sure what causes bleeding in early pregnancy.
Many women worry whether early pregnancy bleeding will damage their baby in some way. It may help to know that there is no evidence that this sort of bleeding will cause direct harm; your baby is not being deprived of nutrients or oxygen.
