The symptoms of PMT are an exaggerated response to a normal hormone cycle and so women who have bad PMT are no less fertile than those who do not. There is no evidence to suggest that PMT is caused by too much progesterone. Progesterone is one of the hormones involved in controlling the menstrual cycle and some experts have suggested that certain women need larger quantities of progesterone than others, and that these women are more likely to suffer from PMT. However, giving progesterone to women with PMT hasn’t proved to be effective.
