In general, the radiation involved in dental x-rays is small, and any risks associated with your involvement with taking x-rays is probably minimal. However, it is recommended that protective aprons are worn by anyone who stays in the room while x-rays are being taken, and most practices would not expect a pregnant woman to be taking x-rays. In each large hospital there is a ‘Radiation Protection Adviser’ whose role it is to look into these matters, and your GP would be able to contact him or her for further advice. Once you are aware of the size of any risk, you can then make a decision about what if any action you wish to take.
