As long as your periods are reasonably regular, I suggest you try without medical assistance at first. Just how long to wait if nothing happens is a difficult question. I would usually suggest a year, but in your case you might like to ask for help after only six months, especially if you are over 35. If you are over 37, or if your periods are very irregular, then it would probably be best if you asked for help straight away.
