The latest thinking amongst experts is that trying to pinpoint the time of ovulation and plan intercourse may not be the best way to get pregnant – for two reasons. Firstly, the usual ways of detecting ovulation – temperature and home ovulation kits – may not be particularly accurate. Secondly, trying to fit love-making into a timetable may cause counter-productive stress and anxiety.

It may be best to simply enjoy making love and to do so as often as you wish. Many women feel more desire for sex around the time that they ovulate – so taking note of your feelings (and acting on them!) may be a better guide to getting pregnant than meticulous recording of temperature and other signs.
