It is normal for a baby to make several different types of movement. Most of the time you can probably guess what your baby is doing, but at other times it will be very difficult. They kick, punch, and turn over. They can also have hiccups, which feel like a rhythmic kick. It is not uncommon to have a tremoring feeling, and though I have to confess I’m not sure what the baby is up to, I too experienced a tremoring with each of my pregnancies. As far as the well-being of your baby is concerned, movement in general is a sign of being healthy, and although books and midwives will tell you that you need at least 10 movement in 12 hours, in practice you will soon get used to your baby’s movement patterns and any decrease from normal should probably be investigated. Some babies move a lot, others are quite docile. It is normal for movements to change in type as the pregnancy progresses as there is less room for the baby to move.
