Anaemia is common in pregnancy and in most cases the anaemia is found to be due to iron deficiency. The reason for this is that women in their reproductive years tend to be low on iron because of their monthly blood loss (periods), and the increased requirement for iron in pregnancy often results in iron deficiency. It’s likely that if you can take iron tablets regularly, you will start to feel less tired and your haemoglobin will rise a little.
