The chance of having another PPH is higher if you’ve already had one. For this reason, you are likely to be advised to have your next baby in a consultant unit (you may be planning to anyway!). You will also be advised to have an injection to help deliver the placenta and reduce blood loss. You may have had this last time, in which case your carers may have a stronger drug available on standby next time. You may also have to have a cannula (a plastic tube into your vein) in your arm, just in case you were to haemorrhage again and needed a drip. As far as your pregnancy is concerned, it will be important to avoid becoming anaemic as a haemorrhage can be more serious if the woman is anaemic. Therefore, you may be prescribed iron sooner rather than later.
