Vision - Non Invasive Prenatal TestingVision is a highly sensitive prenatal test that can be carried out as early as 10 weeks into a pregnancy, using just one simple blood draw.

This is a Non Invasive Prenatal Test

[NIPT] which is offered by Future Health Biobank, the world’s most accredited stem cell bank.

This test analyses the number of chromosome copies in the mother and baby’s blood. It is this analysis which can offer an indication of the possible existence of the following conditions.

Sex chromosome testing

The Vision prenatal test also identifies sex chromosome conditions including:

Jacob’s syndrome [XYY]

Klinefelter syndrome [XXY]

Triple X [XXX]

Turner syndrome [Monosomy X]

Gender identification

A key benefit to the Vision test is associated with the accuracy of gender identification. From just the 10th week of a pregnancy, this test can accurately identify the gender of the unborn baby. This test has a specificity rate of 99.8%.

Normally with the NHS, this information is not unveiled until the 20 week ultrasound scan and it is often not guaranteed to be a totally accurate result.

This gender identification information will need to be requested on the patient consent form prior to the blood draw, as not all parents wish to receive this information in advance of the due date.

Screening results

The sample results will be emailed to the healthcare professional within 5 working days from receipt at the laboratory.

If the results are classed as no aneuploidy detected then this indicates that the baby is not demonstrating any abnormalities associated with the three genetic conditions. Consequently, it is unlikely that they will be diagnosed with Down’s syndrome, Edwards’ syndrome or Patau’s syndrome. However, it is important to note that this test is 99.8% specific. Consequently, this test will provide a very reliable indication but not a 100% guarantee.

If the results are classed as aneuploidy detected then this indicates that the baby may be affected by one of the three conditions. Should a positive result be recorded then the healthcare professional will advise the different options available for further testing.
